21st Century Skills: Making them Work for Each Student
(ASIJ - Chofu Campus)

Carol Ann Tomlinson, distinguished speaker on differentiation, will present "21st Century Skills: Making them Work for Each Student" on September 18th at ASIJ, Chofu Campus.

The concept of 21st Century Skills is driven by a need to ensure that today’s students are prepared to live in the complex and uncertain world that awaits them after graduation perhaps entirely different than the world they live in now.  The idea of ensuring that students develop a depth of content knowledge and use that knowledge critically, creatively, and collaboratively to address significant problems sounds like the right direction for schools.  It also sounds like a great challenge in the face of academically diverse student populations.  How can teachers organize classrooms so that students with different backgrounds, readiness levels, interests, and approaches to learning all have the opportunity to develop crucial 21st Century Skills?

Dr. Tomlinson will examine the intersection of 21st century skills and differentiated instruction.
She will share how to:

  • develop curriculum that promotes student proficiency with complex skills

  • understand student needs related to 21st century skills

  • scaffold student success

  • organize a classroom which focuses on success for a variety of learners.
