Looking at Student Work
& Using Data to Improve
Student Achievement
(Grades K-12 All Subject Areas)
The tide has shifted. Our schools are finally beginning to equate ‘effectiveness’ with the extent and
quality of student learning. Central to this important shift is the notion of using data as a basis for
improving learning. Genuine interest in raising learning standards, discovering what really works, and holding ourselves accountable for student learning are fueling our efforts to be more systematic about being data-driven.
Through a practical, interactive format, this workshop will explore:
Why should we collect data?
What kind of data is truly useful as a basis for improving student learning?
How can we create the most effective assessment tools to provide high quality data?
What evaluative tools offer the most usable data?
What are some key tools available for analyzing the data?
What practices work best for examining student work?
How can I best use the 'data' that comes from collaboratively examining student work?
